Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

Centre Should Assist UP Government on Ayodhya

The advice tendered by the Union Home Minister L.K. Advani to the UP Chief Minister not to prevent the VHP volunteers going to Ayodhya, is unwarranted. It is in line with the earlier statement of the Prime Minister that the VHP should be trusted as they have assured that they will hold a peaceful programme on October 17.

The decision of the Union government not to stop trains proceeding towards Ayodhya, on the demand of the RSS, is another indication of the tacit support being given to the VHP.

The Uttar Pradesh state government has taken steps to avoid any potential trouble in Ayodhya which is in line with the Supreme Court and High Court directives to maintain the status quo at the site in the town. It is incumbent upon the central government to assist the state government in ensuring peace and law and order at Ayodhya.
