The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
On Government of India Giving Landing Facilities to US Military Aircraft
Despite the consensus arrived at the all-party meeting at which the Prime Minister firmly assured that government of India's involvement in the war against terrorism will not be beyond exchange of information with the United States, the government of India has provided landing facilities for an American military transport aircraft at the Palam Airforce base.
Strong doubts have arisen in the minds of the people that such provision of landing facilities will gradually involve our country into the intended American war against Afghanistan.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon the Vajpayee government to adhere strictly to its assurance given at the all-parties meeting as well as the consensus arrived at therein.
