Press Statement

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:

On Nepal Repression

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the new round of repression unleashed by the King’s regime in Nepal. On the eve of the mass rally for the restoration of democracy called by the seven-parties front, leaders of various political parties have been arrested. The General Secretary of the CPN(UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal and the President of the Nepali Congress G. P. Koirala have been placed under house arrest. Scores of activists are still being rounded up.
There is no doubt whatsoever that the King will not allow any democratic political activities. The CPI(M) is confident that the people of Nepal will respond in a big way to the call for ending the autocratic regime.
