The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
VHP Threat Condemned
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the threat issued by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad that it will repeat December 6, 1992 if the site at Ayodhya is not handed over to it. The VHP's rabble rouser Praveen Togadia has declared that the judicial option is closed and has demanded that the government enact a law through Parliament to hand over the land for temple construction, or face a renewed agitation which could lead to a repetition of December 6, 1992.
The BJP leadership should immediately clarify its position regarding this threat. Does it endorse the VHP's stand that it will defy the court and the law by resuming the agitation to get control of the acquired land? Despite such provocative statements, the Vajpayee government has not come out condemning such a stance and stating that it will deal firmly with any attempt to violate the law and create disturbances.
