‘Gujarat Model’ would be disastrous: Sitaram Yechury

May 06, 2014

In a public meeting organised on the 5th of May, in the Dum Dum Parliamentary Constituency in North 24 Parganas district, in support of the Left Front candidate Dr. Ashim Dasgupta , Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury said that country’s poor will get respite  only with alternative policies at the centre. He said that the Left together with other non BJP, non Congress secular parties can become that alternative force.

Yechury remarked that the ‘Gujarat Model’ which is being eulogised and blown out of proportions by the BJP and the corporate media, would be a disastrous course for the future of the country. Under the so called ‘Gujarat Model’, corporates enjoy heavy tax concessions. Implementation of the same model across India would mean increasing profits for the capitalists and a greater burden on the common man, worsening their condition.  A large part of rural Gujarat still lives in darkness without electrification. If this model is the future of the country, then what kind of country will be left for the coming generations, he asked.

Sitaram Yechury said that the both Congress and BJP want to loot the country of its resources. To save the country, strengthening of the Left forces is the need of the hour. The Left will usher in a set of alternative pro people policies at the centre unlike the BJP, Congress and the TMC who all focus on individuals rather than policies.

Gautam Deb, CPI (M) Central Committee addressing the same meeting said that the biggest crime committed by the TMC is to make space for the BJP in the state. He appealed the TMC workers and supporters not to heed to the politics of violence, corruption and regression promoted by the ruling party in the last three years. He further added that it should be ensured that communal forces, such as the BJP are not able to gain further ground in the state.
