CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member, Surjya Kanta Mishra was highly critical of the TMC government, under whose rule no new industries have been opened and the ones started under the previous Left government have been closed down. Addressing two separate meetings in support of the Barasat and Dum Dum Left Front candidates on of May 8, the leader of the opposition in the Bengal assembly alleged that the TMC government is organising festivities on borrowed money, even while the people of the state go hungry. In the TET exam, only 1% of the students passed. Recruitments made through the SSC are far less than the required numbers.
As opposed to the Gujarat Model, Mamata Banerjee has been projecting the ‘Bengal Model’. Mishra remarked that this ‘Bengal Model’ is actually a product of the 34 years of Left rule in the state. The Bengal Model stands for 11 lakh acres distributed among the landless, bargadars registered on 15 lakh acres and the most successful implementation of land reforms in the country. Numerous schools, colleges, roads and power stations were built. The Panchayat system of West Bengal was regarded as the best. Under the Left, West Bengal achieved food security; record grain production was registered by farmers cultivating on their own fields.
Mishra called on the people to support the Left, if they want to reject TMC’s anarchic rule. He added that the Left would raise their voice for the poor and toiling masses and struggle against all kinds of misrule.
