The CPI(M) candidate for Tripura East constituency Comrade Jitendra Choudhury’s day long campaign in the three Assembly segments of Teliamura Subdivision evoked huge response today. The CPI(M) candidate addressed seven public meetings spread across the three Assembly segments of Teliamurra, Krishnapur and Promodenagar-Kalyanpur.
The campaign started from Ghilatoli at 9 a.m. Hundreds of people of both tribal and non-tribal communities had gathered there. Starting from Ghilatoli, he addressed six more meetings at North Maharani, Krishnapur, Mungiakami, Duski, Moharchharra and Kalyanpur. The last meeting at Kalyanpur started at around 7 pm.
In all meetings, people responded with enthusiasm. Large numbers of tribal youth, especially women in their traditional outfits attended the meeting. From the hilly areas of Namanjoy which was affected by insurgency, people came marching with bands. 50 voters from 16 families who were with the Congress and INPT came and pledged their support for CPI(M) henceforth. The candidate was accompanied by Teliamura District Committee secretary Sudhir Sarkar and Party State Committee member and Minister for Fisheries, Khagendra Jamatia.
In the meetings, the leaders launched a scathing attack on Congress for its neo-liberal policies heaping burdens of price rise, unemployment and unprecedented corruption. They said communal BJP which follows the same economic policies is no different. A real alternative based on pro-people policies is the need. This can happen only with a strong and increased presence of the Left, they said.
