Don't Hush Up Radha's Case: Brinda

Apr 05, 2014
In the midst of the hustle and bustle of the election campaign, CPI(M) Polit Bureau Member, Brinda Karat, took time to visit the grieving family of Radha in Malappuram. Radha’s body was found in a pond, 30 kilometers away from the Nilmabur Congress office on February 10. Employed as a sweeper in the Congress office, Radha was reported missing since February 5. Two leading Congress workers, including a staff member of the Transport and Power Minister Aryadan Muhammed, have been named in her rape and murder.

The family, apart from having to cope with the loss of an earning member, was also subjected to humiliation. Congress leaders and workers are competing with each other to tarnish the image of the family. Added to it are the attempts by the police and the government machinery to hush up the case.

It is against this background that the visit of the CPI(M) leader assumes significance. Offering her heartfelt condolences to her kin, Brinda assured them that she would take up the issue with the National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women.

She warned against any attempt to hush up the case. She also referred to similar attempts in the case of the unnatural death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor.
