The people of Sinthi in Kolkata North constituency on May 7th defied widespread terror by TMC goons and gathered in large numbers to support the Left Front candidate, Rupa Bagchi. CPI (M) Polit Bureau member Surjya Kanta Mishra addressed the gathering.
Mishra commented that Mamata Banerjee has lost faith in her own party workers. That is why she has put up non-political candidates in many seats. He further added that Mamata has given up democratic politics and is resorting to threats to silence all her critics. Surjya Kanta Mishra said that no development can be brought for the people of the state by attacking the opposition.
He reminded people that the TMC supremo was a key minister in the NDA government and supported all the anti people policies, right from disinvestment of public sectors companies to the scrapping of the Essential Commodity Regulation Act. Now, Mamata is putting up a staged act of opposing Modi. He reminded the audience that Mamata had sent Modi flowers to congratulate him over his victory after the Gujarat riots.
Mishra said that the Left has opposed and resisted communal politics right from the start. The Left has also carried on struggles against liberalization and corruption. Only with the strengthening of the Left, the resources of the country can be saved from loot. The Left also has been carrying on struggles to resist privatization of banks and airports.
The NSSO data shows that the Left Front had provided employment to 27 lakh people in small scale industries. Land reforms had been successfully implemented, poor have received employment in the countryside under the 34 years of the Left Front rule. However, under the TMC, the state has been denigrated into the rape capital of the country.
Surjya Kanta Mishra appealed to the people for strengthening the Left and voting against TMC’s misrule.
