Professor (Dr) Debesh Das is no stranger to politics nor governance. The Left Front nominated CPI(M) candidate for the 14-Bangaon (SC) Parliamentary constituency, Dr Das was Information & Technology Department minister during 2006-2011. He began as a student activist in his youth and got subsequently elected to the Taltala (reserved) Assembly for the period of 1991-1996, 2001-2006 and 2006-2011. A teacher by training, Professor Das has a more than two decade experience in teaching. He began his innings from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra in 1986 and later as Lecturer / Reader in Calcutta University and Jadavpur University. Subsequently he became Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Jadavpur University. Professor Das attained his Masters and Bachelor Degree respectively in 1984 and 1982 in Electronics & Tele-Communication Engineering from Jadavpur University and completed his PhD in 1997 from the same institution. He went on to do his post-doctoral research work from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan and University of Potsdam, Germany. He was a visiting Professor at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok. His work and research took him to different countries like USA, Italy, China, Russia, Canada, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Norway and Denmark. He has more than 60 published papers in international journals and proceedings of reputed international conferences. Eight students were awarded Ph. D. under his supervision. A dedicated teacher for most of his career, he was deeply involved in research with a special interest in VLSI design, VLSI testing, Logic Synthesis, with some 23 years of experience in this particular field.
