Master Sher Singh

68-year old Master Sher Singh, the CPI (M) candidate from Bhiwani-Mahendergrah, is a retired teacher and the president of Haryana unit of the All India Kisan Sabha. Before his retirement he was a popular leader of the Sarva Karamchari Sangh, the government employees union and the teachers union. The SKS led several powerful movements in the state and Master Sher Singh was always in the forefront. He became a wholetime activist of the Party after retirement, working on the kisan front. Under his leadership, the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh area has developed a strong base of the Kisan Sabha with more than 50,000 members. AIKS has gained huge popularity in Bhiwani for successfully launching struggles for compensation of the frequent crop losses due to natural calamities.

Bhiwani & Mohindergarh-Key Issues
Bhiwani-Mahendergrah parliamentary constituency is a general seat comprising of 9 assembly segments. There are over 14.43 lakh voters of which 7.76 lakh are malr and 6.67 lakh are female. Currently the seat is held by the Congress. INLD and HJC-BJP are other political parties in the contest. The peasantry of the area faces some severe problems including lack of irrigation (this is a low rainfall region) and increasing input costs in agriculture. The area is industrially very backward. There are large number of stone mines situated in Khanak (Tosham) and thousands of families livelihood depends on it. Caste oppression in all its brutal forms is prevalent in the area and hence issues of social justice are very prominent.
