49 year old Prabhuraj Narayan Rao is the CPI(M) candidate from West Champaran Lok Sabha constituency. Rao is a graduate. He was politically active since his student days and became one of the prominent leaders of both the student movement as well as the youth movement. In 1993, poor people and street vendors in Gumti were told to vacate pavements, thereby taking away whatever little shelter they had. Rao raised his voice against this injustice and led their struggle. He was elected the president of ‘Gumti Foothpath and Street Vendors’ Sangharsh Samiti’. He also played a major role in the construction of Vishwamitra Market, named after the famous freedom fighter Vishwamitra.
