Rajendra Singh Munda is a popular peasant leader in Jharkhand, who has thrice been elected from the Silli Assembly constituency in Ranchi District. He has played a leading role in various kisan movements in the region of Panch-pargana in Ranchi. He was instrumental in uniting forces in the struggle for Panchyat elections and in defence of the Fifth Schedule in Jharkhand. A veteran leader, who has been a part of the communist movement since 1964, Munda has successfully led anti-displacement movements. He has been jailed several times in the course of his struggles against the government on one hand and against feudal elements on the other. He has also fought for the rights of tribals and is currently the All India Vice President of the Adiwasi Adhikar Rastriya Manch.
