Sirsa (SC)-Key Issues
Sirsa is a reserved constituency for scheduled castes. Its 9 assembly segments are spread over three districts: five in Sirsa, three in Fatehabad and one in Jind districts. The total electorate of the parliamentary constituency is about 16.38 lakh, of which 8.75 lakh are male and 7.63 are female. The seat is currently held by the Congress. It has fairly developed agriculture due to the Green Revolution. The population of scheduled castes is over 25 percent. There are very acute disparities between rich farmers and landless agricultural labourers. Some of the key issues in the area are proper implementation of MNREGA and public distribution system, land issues for residence and agriculture and violence against women. Caste oppression is pervasive and hence social justice is a prominent issue.
