Shiv Prasad Deoli is the CPI(M) candidate for Tehri Lok Sabha constiituency in Uttarakhand state. He has been part of the Left movement in the state for the last 35 years, having joined it in the early 1980s. He started off as a fighter against the feudal forces in the Dehradun valley and was a founding member of the Kisan Sabha in the region. In the past he has been elected to the Gram Sabha and the Zilla Panchayat. He has also held the positions of Gram Pradha and recently was the Chairman of the Zilla Panchayat.
Tehri constituency has fourteen assembly segments out of which 7 are in Dehradun, 4 in Tehri, 3 in Uttarkashi districts. This region was part of a former princely state and home to strong people's movement. The Communist Party playing a leading role in the struggle against feudalism in the region. The constituency has a varied demography with a sizeable Muslim and tribal population. A part of this constituency was devastated by the floods last year which exposed the state government's mismanagement. The CPI(M) has been at the forefront of a number of struggles in the region having a strong presence within the kisan movement.
