In Doddaballapur, the jatha interacted with the local people and found out that water scarcity and lack of electricity are adversely affecting the livelihoods of the people there. Women are found waiting for water since 5 AM in the morning for more than six hours and water finally trickled at around 11 AM. It seems it is a daily routine for them and many times most of the women who wait for water cannot fill their pitchers as water stops before that.

In Asansol, a huge public meeting was held in Rabindra Bhavan. Large sections of urban poor and middle classes attended this meeting. Prakash Karat, Biman Basu and Nirupam Sen addressed the meeting. Karat, in this meeting, particularly noted about the danger of communal forces and emphasized that while fighting for alternative policies, the fight against communal forces must be continued.

Well, illiteracy is above 45 per cent, and far higher among women, girls below 18 are forcefully married off and opponents are dealt with severe punishments. Inter-caste marriages are a taboo and families are ostracised.

It reached Durgapur after passing through the districts of Howrah, Hooghly and Burdwan. The entire journey was a reflection of people’s love and solidarity with CPI(M)’s struggle.
