Niti Aayog: A Regressive Step

The announcement of a NITI Aayog to replace the Planning Commission is a regressive step which will further push the country into a market-driven economy and privatization in all spheres at the expense of diluting even the present inadequate schemes aimed at improving people’s welfare. ....Underlying the abolition of the concept of the Planning Commission, is the Modi government's ideological conviction that public resources should be put at the disposal of the private sector and the market forces.

Land Acquisition Ordinance: Authoritarian Step

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly opposes the decision of the BJP government to amend the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act through the ordinance route to favour the interests of the corporates and real estate barons. The proposed amendment surrenders the genuine interests of the peasantry and land owners.This decision is in continuation of the ordinances passed on coal privatisation and raising the FDI in insurance.

Polit Bureau Communiqué

The Polit Bureau took serious note of the fact that the United States has sought to pressurize India on the Indian Patent law and Intellectual Property Rights policy. It also sought the dilution of the civil nuclear liability law of the country. Both these are reflected in the joint statement issued by Prime Minister Modi and President Obama. The joint statement announced the decision to set up an Intellectual Property Working Group. The US pharmaceutical companies have been demanding that India dilute its present patent regime which has utilised the flexibilities provided in the TRIPS agreement. It is this which helps to keep drug prices low for the people in India.

Central Committee Communique

The Central Committee noted that the Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and the Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, were finally forced to resign after the Prime Minister and the Congress party resisted this demand while the parliament session was on. This has exposed the hypocrisy of the Congress which has blamed the opposition for the disruption of the parliamentary proceedings since the wrong-doing of the ministers became known.
