The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
On Fire in Golden Temple Mail
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep shock at the death of 38 passengers in the fire which occurred in the Golden Temple Mail near Ludhiana. Thirteen other passengers have been injured.
The incident, once again, highlights the total lack of safety measures on the trains in the Indian railways. There were neither adequate fire fighting equipment nor first aid boxes available on the train. The Railway Ministry must immediately provide adequate compensation to the families of those killed in the accident and those wounded.
The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in this tragedy.
